Listening to music is not just an automatic task. It is something we learn how to do. It may seem weird or difficult at first but remember a couple of things:

• our first reaction to something we don't understand is to not like it. Ask yourself why you don't like it before you dismiss a piece.
• don't get frustrated if you are not at the same level as someone else. Your ability to hear certain elements will depend on your exposure to music up to this point.
• popular music is a specific type of music. It is not always simpler than other types but it does tend to make use of only a few elements of music. Much of the music presented here will have a lot of features which makes it more complicated.
• enjoy yourself...music only means something if it means something to you!
